Why is Nevada day On Holloween?

Nevada admitted into statehood on Halloween day (October 31st, 1964). As the thirty-sixth state into The Union, Nevada was a Keystone pillar in not only the reelection of President Lincoln but the success of The Union winning the civil war.

Without the newly discovered gold and silver in Nevada, the 13th amendment would have delayed for years. No person more the president Lincoln wanted Nevada to become a state. Not only would the succession ensure his presidency but, the rapidly growing territory would help finance the escalating civil war. It is giving Nevada its motto “The Battle Born State,” as for the observance of the religious holiday “All Saints Day” (November 1st) and “All-hallows eve” (October 31st,) or Holloween. Though there are no real records of when Halloween first observed in the united states, it was not until 1933 long after Halloween that the state legislature passed a bill officially declaring admittance day as an official state holiday. In 2000 the government amended the observance to the last Friday of October. So state offices are closed.
